You can help restock local animal shelters with pet food starting Thursday night.  Lewis Drugs in Sioux Falls, Madison, Huron and Brookings are accepting donations of dog and cat chow through Sunday during Operation Feed-a-Pet.

A sprawling 10-thousand square foot vacant warehouse on the north side of Sioux Falls will serve as a cavernous collection point for pet food dropped off at Lewis Drug stores.

“It’s heated and air conditioned so it’s climate-controlled so there won’t be any issues with snow and ice or heat and humidity,’ Jans Corp. President Brian Jans said.

Jans Corporation is adding more kennel and office space to the humane society.  In the meantime, the construction project will put a squeeze on storage space.  So the donated pet food will be stacked up at the old warehouse for the humane society to pick up.
